Ex-Peak XV’s Anandamoy Roychowdhary Joins Crane Venture Partners

More than a year after departing Peak XV Partners, Anandamoy Roychowdhary has now joined UK-based early-stage investment firm Crane Venture Partners. 

In a post on LinkedIn, Roychowdhary said that he was joining Crane Venture Partners as a managing director. He will likely oversee the VC firm’s investments in Indian artificial intelligence (AI) and deeptech startups. 

“Looking to invest in the special AI and Deep-tech companies of the future in India, Singapore and Australia. We think India (and Indian founders) are going to play an outsized role in the dawn of the AI age and we’d love to partner with the ones who want to build significant and long lasting companies,” read Roychowdhary’s updated profile. 

Founded in 2015 by Krishna Visvanathan and Scott Sage, Crane Venture Partners is a London-based VC firm that typically invests in early stage startups, across Seed and Series A rounds. The investment firm is largely focussed on sectors such as B2B SaaS, deeptech, AI, among others.

Roychowdhary’s appointment comes barely three months after the VC firm announced the launch of its maiden Asia Pacific (APAC) fund. The $135 Mn fund will back early stage ventures across India and other APAC countries. 

He is expected to scout investments for the VC firm’s new fund in India. This is a big leg up for Roychowdhary, who previously was a partner at Peak XV’s incubation arm Surge. 

Roychowdhary left Peak XV in November 2024 after an 11-year long stint, but his departure was followed by a slew of other top-level exits at the investment firm. Just earlier this month, three managing directors — Ashish Agrawal, Ishaan Mittal, and Tejeshwi Sharma – left Peak XV to start their own investment firm. 

Meanwhile, Crane Venture Partners has become the latest global VC firm to set aside corpus for Indian startups. As per Inc42 data, the country saw the launch of $12.1 Bn worth of new VC and PE funds last year, up 39% YoY from 2024.
