Ola Krutrim’s ‘Kruti’ AI Chatbot Goes Offline

Krutrim Launches Its Agentic AI Assistant Kruti

Kruti, the AI assistant built by Ola Krutrim, is currently unavailable across app stores and the web.

The app is no longer accessible on the Apple App Store or Google Play. It has also been removed from the Ola platform, where it was earlier integrated. Attempts to access it across these platforms failed.

The Kruti website (kruti.ai) shows a “site not found” error. Meanwhile, users visiting it through Ola’s website see a message saying the service is under maintenance and will return soon.

The development was first reported by Economic Times.

Kruti was launched in June last year as a consumer AI assistant capable of handling text, voice and image inputs. Built on Krutrim’s V2 model with 12 Bn parameters, it was integrated into Ola’s services for cab booking, food ordering and bill payments. Founder Bhavish Aggarwal had positioned it as a local alternative to global AI tools such as ChatGPT.

However, the latest disruption comes amid broader turbulence at Krutrim.

The company has undertaken multiple rounds of layoffs in 2025, with a focus on its linguistics team. In one of the recent rounds, about 50 employees, including team leads and regional language transcribers across Bengali, Malayalam and Punjabi, were let go as part of a restructuring exercise.

This followed earlier cuts of around 100 employees, taking total layoffs this year to roughly 200, according to reports.

These layoffs are significant as the linguistics team was central to training Krutrim’s AI models. The company has also seen a number of senior-level exits in recent months.

Per ET report, the work on Krutrim’s next model, Krutrim 3, has been stalled. The model was expected to be more advanced and trained using a mix of in-house infrastructure and IndiaAI compute capacity.

Founded in 2023, Krutrim became a unicorn in January 2024 after raising $50 Mn. The startup offers GPU-as-a-service, model-as-a-service and other AI tools, and has positioned itself as a full-stack AI player with ambitions spanning cloud, foundational models and even indigenous AI chips.

However, its products, including its large language model and cloud offerings, have seen limited adoption so far. Developers and founders have earlier flagged issues such as weak documentation and lack of technical maturity.

The outage of its flagship consumer-facing product now raises fresh questions about execution and product direction at the company.
